Introducing the Publication: Effective Approaches to Developing Situation Reports on Corruption
Corruption remains a persistent challenge that erodes public trust, harms economic stability, and weakens the foundations of good governance. To address this issue, the EPAC/EACN Working Group on Effective Approaches to Developing Situational Reports on Corruption (Corruption SITREP) was established. Led by the Austrian Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK), the group comprised over 25 member organisations and partners.
The discussions within the working group were supported by input from external experts, a survey among the participating organisations, and case studies of best practice from several organisations. The publication “Effective Approaches to Developing Situation Reports on Corruption”, developed jointly by the working group members, provides anti-corruption agencies with comprehensive guidelines for developing standardised situational reporting frameworks. It emphasises the importance of structured, data-driven approaches to fighting corruption, highlighting the need for collaboration and the sharing of best practices to enhance transparency and facilitate informed decision-making.
The publication outlines key methodologies, reporting standards and a structured approach to monitoring corruption trends, providing a roadmap for institutional reform, policy development and corruption prevention strategies. It is also intended to serve as a resource for policymakers, regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies and anti-corruption organisations, supporting the development of more effective monitoring and prevention strategies.
